So here I am thinking of what I should do on the day of my brother;s marriage without letting him and her on into it. Just watched this video.
Now. Picturing MY scenario. Mandapam, everything serene, nadhaswaram, mridangam all set. Before Ponnu Maaplai come in, all us family and friends go into this mission to make the marriage hall as noisy and peppy as possible. We ask the DJ player(my kutti friend) to play a good tamil song. Immediately, the hall resonates with "En uchi mandai la surrrunguthu!" and all vidwans and 40+ and 50+ look up so fast there could be crick-like neck sounds all over. And a small line (of people) starts trickling into the hall. i can so imagine the disapproving looks on my father's and mother's faces. One of them starts shaking a leg and the crowd after a minute actually laughs and looks mockingly as though to ask who amateurishly decided to orchestrate a joke on the date of a traditional Tam Bram wedding. The music stops, as my kutti DJ friend has been told off by his mom(who hasnt been let on into this). I ask my friends to "start music" and the goundamani music comes pouring in, deafening, misting us with its familiarism, sense, and its capability to make us appreciate the humor and absurdity of it all. One of my brother's friends starts doing the dandanakka. It breaks the tension and some people actually start to relax. They come and go in pairs, and then there is the kungfu panda soundtrack. All of a sudden there are karate and kungfu moves. And then my brother enters. I want propper music! He says. Propper lo-ccal madras moosic. And so there is this sudden Pothikkinnu paduthukava music. All grandmothers around the room form a uniform 'O' with their mouths. I can almost see my grandmother mouthing words at me. Scolding me, that is. Yedhu ree, dhrishti maadhri indha moosic andha moosic nu dhappankoothu panradhum koothu panrel! Vera edame kadaikkaliya di maa!? Nanna manamma kalyaanam nu pannina lakshanama naathaswaram, saasthrappadi irukkavendam!?
My brother and sisterinlaw enter. They dance very gently to the ging-chaak tune. And they flawlessly move like, sashay, bailare, across until they end up in the actual medai. There is a burst of applause and balloons burst all over, with confetti all over. The vaadhyar is covered in pink hearts. Ravi can;t bring himself to say the mandhrams and Divya's too busy worried about getting stitches from laughing.
Me and Krupa and Vish to the side, with twinkling eyes. I dont even turn because my father is right opposite me and I am scared to meet his eyes. Oh well, edhallaaam pannirukkom idha mattum pannamaatoma! :D
lol. good one :)
